WHAT: Green Drinks NYC Annual Holiday Party featuring British environmentalist and head of Adventure Ecology, David de Rothschild. David will be giving a presentation on his Plastiki Voyage 8000 across the Atlantic Ocean.

For the past several years, and in no other time in history have we been witness to vast patches of floating garbage in our great seas. This year we creating a outstanding event with David de Rothschild and The Plastiki Voyage, to engage, inspire and enlighten the NYC Green Community and beyond, about the complex issue of plastics in the ocean and how we can take action for positive change. The Plastiki is a 60ft catamaran made from 12,500 plastic bottles, which sailed from San Francisco, 8000 miles across the Pacific to Sydney, Australia, to raise awareness about the Great Pacific Garbage Patches.

David de Rothschild is a British environmentalist, head of Adventure Ecology, a group raising awareness about climate change, and has received the "Emerging Explorer" Award by National Geographic. He has also been appointed an "international ambassador" by the NGO "Clean Up The World" and nominated as a "Young Global Leader" by the World Economic Forum.

Green Drinks NYC was founded in 2002 and has 700+ established chapters worldwide. Green Drinks NYC is a popular environmental networking organization dedicated to unifying the sustainable community in New York. With over 14,000 members, they host regular monthly events that connect and engage 300 people (on average) from a wide range of environmentally-related backgrounds. Every December, Green Drinks partners with outstanding individuals and groups to bring into focus issues of environmental significance, while inspiring people to make a difference in our world.

Last years event touched many people, our special guest, Sylvia Earle, critically acclaimed Oceanographer, National Geographic Explorer in Residence, Time magazine's first "hero for the planet," and recipient of the prestigious TED prize illuminated critical issues that face our oceans by sharing her incredible experiences having logged over 7,000 hours underwater. Locally, we featured Citizen Campaign for the Environment and their phenomenal work in prevention, protection, and preservation of our eastern coasts.

2009 SYLVIA EARLE @ Prince George Ballroom - last years event with Sylvia Earle was a tremendous success with over 500 people in attendance (deliberately made it smaller)- dance program, live music, Carl Safina opening speaker, book signing, silent auction, educational tables and "take action petitions", partnered with Google Oceans, Explorers Club (via Sylvia Earle) and more.
